Jack Frost Festival 2016
Season’s Greetings from the Jack Frost Festival Committee:
Planning is now underway for the 22nd Annual Jack Frost Festival of Lights Parade! The date for the parade is Friday, December 2, 2016. The parade will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. in downtown Ironwood along Aurora Street, starting at the Ironwood Carnegie Library corner. Parade participants must be at their line-up position by 5:00 p.m. All parade staging areas will have section directors to assist you. You’ll be able to identify them by their safety vests.
Thomas DeCarlo, recently named “2016 U.P. Veteran of the Year,” is the parade Grand Marshal with the support of the Ironwood/Bessemer/Wakefield American Legions and their auxiliaries. Parade participants are encouraged to incorporate this year’s theme, “A Patriotic Christmas” in their entries. Float ideas include honoring branches of the military, flag’s-American, POW, military, etc., Uncle Sam, Rosie the Riveter, the Liberty Bell, Doughboy, Betsy Ross, Statue of Liberty, military leaders, or simply a red, white and blue float. In addition, we are asking that every entry carry an American Flag. Entries will be judged on the creative ways in which this year’s theme is portrayed through float/unit design and decoration. Not to confuse kids, no other “Santa” entries are allowed. Please keep in mind that this is a night-time parade: All entries must have lights. The Festival Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject any parade unit(s).
