Founded in 1887 by Abe Abelman, a Lithuanian immigrant, Abelman’s has been at its current Bessemer Sophie Street location since 1902, and is now owned and operated by Abe’s grandson, Bob Abelman. The store has not changed much from the days when Abe was here. It is still operated on the basis of friendship and good values like businesses were run years ago.
