Polar Bear Hockey are members of both USA Hockey and the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA). USA Hockey sets the playing rules for the game of hockey within the United States. USA Hockey also provides the insurance program for the players, coaches, and referees. MAHA governs hockey within the State of Michigan. It is primarily responsible for setting age levels, team classifications, and for administering the state tournaments. Ironwood lies within the District 8 of MAHA, which encompasses most of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Here are the levels of programs/teams listed below (you can imagine this is going by age). There is also potential for a U18 team (Midget) as well.

  1. Learn to Skate
  2. U6 (Blue Learn to Play)
  3. U8 (Mite)
  4. U10 (Squirt)
  5. U12 (Peewee)
  6. U14 (Bantam)

We try to host playdowns and district tournaments at the Civic Center, which brings in other teams from Michigan (and opportunities for other businesses in the area). But there are also home games held here every weekend.

There are fundraisers such as Gun Raffle, Steak Feed, Wreath Sale, Candy Bar Sale, and Golf Outing.
