The Ironwood Chamber of Commerce will have its Fall Social at the Aurora Club, 101 Penokee Road, Ironwood, from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, September 26. Five to six is social and network time, with the meal ($15) and speaker from six to seven p.m. Our speaker (all the way up here from Lansing) is the Michigan State Demographer, Dr. Jaclyn Butler. Her office is part of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics, where she analyzes population for the state as well as advising the general public and local leaders on the sources, uses, and limitations of Census data. Dr. Butler returned to her home state after completing her PhD in demography and rural sociology at Penn State University. Gogebic County is one of very, very few MI counties that over the last 2-3 years saw a tiny growth in population due primarily to in-migration. Dr. Butler will present historical data, current data, and analyze trends for both natural and in-migration population change. Chamber member Yukon 51 is preparing an excellent meal, for which you can pay at the door. Come early, refresh (cash bar), meet & greet, and enjoy an informative evening!
